Anyone can put paint
on a wall. Very few
prepare one.

Interior and exterior painting, cabinet refinishing and plaster repair for houses across the harbour district. Sixty per cent of what you pay us happens before the first tin is opened — which is exactly why the work is still flat in year six.

Fixed price · Two-year workmanship warranty · Employees, never subcontractors

What we do

Six services, one standard.

We are a painting firm, not a general contractor with a spray rig. Everything below is work our own painters do every week.

01

Interior Repainting

Full-room repaints with everything masked, floors covered wall to wall, and holes filled and sanded rather than smeared. Two coats over a tinted primer, always.

$480 – $980 per room
02

Exterior House Painting

Scraped, sanded, spot-primed and caulked before a brush touches it. On this coast, ninety per cent of a lasting exterior job happens before the first gallon opens.

$4,800 – $16,500
03

Cabinet Refinishing

Doors removed, degreased, sanded, and sprayed in our shop with a catalysed conversion varnish. Factory finish, on your existing boxes, for a third of replacement.

$3,900 – $9,600 per kitchen
04

Trim, Doors & Millwork

Casings, baseboards, crown, stair rails and panelled doors, sprayed and hand-finished. This is the work that decides whether a room reads as finished or nearly finished.

$14 – $28 per linear foot
05

Plaster & Drywall Repair

Cracks cut out and taped rather than filled, water damage cut back to sound board, and skim coats floated to a level 5 finish before any colour goes on.

$340 – $2,800
06

Colour Consultation

Two hours with our colour consultant, large-format samples on your actual walls, and a written schedule naming every colour, sheen and surface. Credited against the work.

$395 · credited to the job
The five stages

Protect. Prepare. Prime. Paint. Present.

The same sequence on every job, from a single hallway to a whole exterior. It is written down, and the foreman signs off each stage.

  1. I

    Protect

Floors papered and taped wall to wall, furniture centred and sheeted, fixtures removed rather than masked around.

  2. II

    Prepare

Fill, sand, caulk, cut out cracks, spot-prime every repair. This is 60% of the labour on any job worth paying for.

  3. III

    Prime

Tinted primer toward the finish colour, so two coats genuinely cover instead of nearly covering.

  4. IV

    Paint

Two full coats, cut in by hand, rolled wet-edge, with the sheen chosen per surface rather than per room.

  5. V

    Present

Walkthrough with the foreman, punch list closed the same day, and every colour recorded in a schedule you keep.

The firm

Two names on the van, both still on the tools.

Ray Hollis and I started with a ladder rack and a shared van in 2009. Seventeen years later there are fourteen painters, and the rule that has never moved is that we do not subcontract a single hour of work.

Every painter in your house is on our payroll, insured, lead-safe certified, and has been with us an average of six years. That is expensive and it is the entire product — a crew that has worked together for years is the only reliable way to get a consistent cut line down a whole staircase.

Why this firm

Six things worth asking every painter about.

Preparation is most of the invoice

About sixty per cent of our labour happens before any colour goes on. That ratio is the entire difference between a job that looks good on day one and one that still looks good in year six.

Employees, not day labour

Every painter on your job is on our payroll, insured, background-checked and has been with us an average of six years. We do not subcontract, and the crew that starts is the crew that finishes.

A written colour schedule

You get a document naming every colour, sheen, brand and surface in the house. Three years from now, when you need to touch up the hallway, you will know exactly what to buy.

Fixed price, not an hourly meter

The quote is the price. If we underestimated the plaster repair, that is our problem, not a change order. The only exception is genuine hidden damage, and then you approve it before we proceed.

Clean is a specification

Nothing is left in the house overnight, floors are vacuumed daily, and there are no drips on your switch plates because we take the switch plates off. It is a low bar that most of the trade limbos under.

Two-year workmanship warranty

Peeling, blistering or bleed-through on anything we painted, we come back and fix it. Two years interior, two years exterior, transferable if you sell.

The planner runs the same arithmetic our estimators start from, and the palette preview is drawn from schemes we have actually specified in houses on these streets.

In their words

Clients, mostly repeat.

Two-thirds of our work each year comes from people we have painted for before, or the neighbour who watched us do it.

★★★★★
They spent two full days filling and sanding before opening a single tin, which I confess I found maddening at the time. The walls are the flattest surfaces in the house now and I understand why.

Good questions

What people want to know.

Interiors run $480 to $980 per room including ceilings and trim, so a three-bedroom house is typically $4,200 to $8,500 depending on ceiling height, the amount of trim, and how much repair the walls need. Exteriors run $4,800 to $16,500. The planner on this page will give you a genuine range in about thirty seconds, and it is the same arithmetic our estimators start from.

A single room is one to two days. A full three-bedroom interior is five to eight working days. Cabinets are removed on day one, sprayed in our shop and rehung about a week later, so your kitchen is usable throughout apart from the doors. Exteriors run one to three weeks and are weather-dependent, which we will not pretend otherwise about.

Almost never. We work room by room, seal doorways with zip walls, and use low-odour, low-VOC paints as standard. Most clients stay in the house throughout. The exception is a whole-house repaint on a tight schedule, where being away for the middle three days makes everyone's life easier.

We specify Benjamin Moore Regal and Aura, Sherwin-Williams Emerald, and Farrow & Ball where the client wants it. You can absolutely choose, and if you ask us to use a cheaper line we will do it and tell you honestly what you are giving up in coverage and scrub resistance. What we will not do is put a builder-grade contractor paint on a job and call it two coats.

Yes — two hours with our colour consultant is $395, credited in full against the work if you book. You get large-format samples painted on your actual walls, viewed at different times of day, and a written schedule of every colour and sheen. Choosing from a two-inch chip under a shop light is how people end up repainting twice.

Two years on workmanship, interior and exterior, transferable to a buyer. That covers peeling, blistering, bleed-through and adhesion failure on anything we prepared and painted. It does not cover new damage, movement cracks in a settling house, or a colour you have decided you dislike — though we are usually willing to talk about that last one.
