How Much Does SEO Cost in 2026?
Real SEO from an agency usually costs $1,500 to $5,000 a month for a local business. You can find cheaper plans, but they only buy a few hours of work. Done well, SEO pays for itself many times over: one of our clients made back 11 times what they spent.
No contract. No exit fee. Your domain and Google accounts stay in your name.

Ask three SEO companies for a price and you might hear $300, $1,500 and $5,000 a month. It’s tempting to pick the cheapest. But SEO (getting your business to show up on Google) isn’t a product you buy once. It’s work that people do for you every month, and the price mostly tells you how much of that work you get.
This guide shows what SEO costs, what you should get for the money, and what happened when our own clients paid for it. Our prices, and this month’s special deals, are at the end.
What does SEO cost per month?
For a local business working with an agency, expect $1,500 to $5,000 a month. In a big survey of SEO providers, agencies charged about $3,200 a month on average. Companies that mostly serve local businesses averaged about $1,550.
Here’s a rough guide:
| Your business | Usual monthly price |
|---|---|
| One location, not many competitors | $1,000 to $1,500 |
| One location in a busy trade, like dental, roofing or HVAC | $1,500 to $2,500 |
| Several services, or several towns | $2,500 to $5,000 |
| Lots of locations, or selling across the country | $5,000 and up |
You’ll also see plans for $300 or $500 a month. Those usually cover a report and a few small fixes. That’s rarely enough to beat competitors who are putting in real work.

Why does good SEO cost more?
Because you’re paying for time. Most SEO experts charge about $75 to $100 an hour, so the monthly price tells you roughly how much work you get:
- $500 a month is about 5 to 7 hours. That’s one afternoon.
- $1,500 a month is about 15 to 20 hours. That’s a few full work days.
- $2,500 a month is about 25 to 33 hours. That’s close to a full work week.
One afternoon a month can’t fix a website, write new pages, look after your Google Business Profile and track your calls. A few days a month can. That’s the difference you see in the results.
What good SEO gets you: our client results
Here’s what happened when our clients invested in real SEO work. Every number was reported by the client from their own accounts.
| What changed | The result |
|---|---|
| Visits from Google for a Texas dental practice | From 6 a day to 143 a day |
| Return on what the same practice spent on SEO | 11 times what they spent |
| One month of SEO for that practice | Brought in one emergency patient worth $9,000 |
| Leads from a client’s website, compared with the year before | Up 349% on average |
| Google search views for “dentist near me”, for dental clients who weren’t showing up at all | Up 1,980% and 3,860% within a month of our fixes |
These results came from steady monthly work: fixing the website, building pages for what people search, and tracking every call and form. See all our case studies.

Why cheap SEO usually costs more
A $300 plan sounds safe. But if it only pays for a report and a few fixes, your competitors keep moving ahead while you wait. After a year, you’ve spent $3,600 and the phone still isn’t ringing more.
Compare that with the dental practice above. One month of real SEO work brought in a single patient worth $9,000. The right plan should make you money, not cost you money.
How much should you spend on SEO?
Start with one question: what is one new customer worth to you?
Say a new customer brings you $2,000 in profit. If SEO brings in just two extra customers a month, that’s $4,000. A $795 plan pays for itself more than twice over. In busy trades like dental, roofing, HVAC or law, one good customer can cover several months of SEO.
Give it a few months to build. SEO grows over time, and the pages and rankings you build keep working for you. Our free budget planner can do the math for you.
Should you pay for SEO or Google Ads?
Google Ads is like renting a sign on the busiest road in town. You get calls this week, but they stop the day you stop paying. For home improvement businesses, one lead from Google search ads costs about $91 on average.
SEO is more like owning the sign. It keeps bringing in customers. The best results come from doing both. For the same Texas dental practice, one month of Google Ads grew the revenue it could trace back to ads from $20,000 to $64,000, while the SEO built up underneath.
